DISCOVER ASAHIDAKE - HOKKAIDO'S BACKCOUNTRY CROWN JEWEL

Rising from the heart of the Daisetsuzan National Park, Asahidake is Hokkaido’s highest peak and one of Japan’s most iconic backcountry destinations. With its steaming volcanic vents, dramatic alpine landscapes, and an average snowfall that ranks among the deepest in the world, Asahidake offers a truly unforgettable setting for powder seekers. Here, winter transforms the mountain into a paradise of endless fresh lines and pristine snowfields — the very definition of “Japow.”

Why Lift-Assisted Backcountry?

The Asahidake ropeway gives us quick and efficient access to the alpine zone, eliminating long approaches and maximizing our time in the terrain that matters most. Within minutes, we step into vast bowls, perfectly spaced birch and aspen glades, and steep powder runs that drop into natural halfpipes. Lift-assisted touring means more riding, less climbing — a balance that allows guests to enjoy the thrill of untouched powder while conserving energy for multiple laps. Depending of conditions we expect to get between 6 and 10 runs in a day.

The Yabai Tours Experience

Our professional guides know Asahidake inside and out — from the safest routes around volcanic features to the hidden stashes that catch the morning sun. Every tour is tailored to the group’s ability and energy levels, whether you’re chasing big alpine lines or flowing through trees stacked with snow. Along the way, guests also gain insights into avalanche awareness and local mountain culture, making the experience as educational as it is exhilarating.

Benefits of Joining Our Tour

  • Maximize Your Time – Spend the day skiing and riding powder instead of long approaches.

  • Safety First – Travel with experienced guides trained in avalanche rescue and mountain safety.

  • Local Knowledge – Access hidden lines and snow conditions only locals know.

  • Unforgettable Atmosphere – Ride amid fumaroles, volcanic terrain, and Hokkaido’s legendary deep snow.

An Asahidake lift-assisted backcountry day with Yabai Tours isn’t just another ski trip — it’s an immersion into one of the world’s most unique and magical mountain environments, where every lap feels like a new discovery

**Asahidake 'volcano circuit' tours will ONLY be offered on days that are forecast to be clear all day. The 'Asahidake Volcano circuit' is a full back-country tour requiring poles, snowshoes or skins and crampons. It's a bucket list tour which is mainly focused on the hike, amazing scenery and views, rather than the snow quality, which at this higher altitude is compact, even icy (not what most riders are looking for) It's extremely dangerous to venture off around the Volcano if the weather may change. Zero visibility is common. Sudden heavy snow can cover your tracks very quickly, making navigation almost impossible. However if the weather is ideal, we will certainly offer this amazing tour option to you! Safety always comes first. (If you need to rent poles, snowshoes, skins, we will provide these for an extra rental fee)

**Our lift-assisted Asahidake back country tours do not require poles, snowshoes or skins. We have a number of backcountry routes that are accessible with a 10-20 minute bootpack climb (depending on your fitness level) PLUS many amazing side country routes accessible with no hiking.

*Please note: Due to varying and quickly changing weather conditions, Asahidake Ropeway will not operate everyday of the winter. Operating days are generally decided by the resort staff on the day. Furthermore, at the discretion of Asahidake ropeway management, the ropeway may not be running first thing in the morning but then (if weather conditions improve), it may start operation after a few hours (or for the afternoon). Conversely, the ropeway may be open in the morning but close later in the day due to deteriorating wind and weather conditions. As a general rule, Asahidake ropeway won't open unless the windspeed is less then 14 metres per second.

Our guides will monitor the situation closely in the days before your tour and notify you of possibilities. If you have booked your tour for Asahidake, and it's not possible to ride there (for the reasons mentioned above) our guides will choose another suitable location for your tour on the day OR if possible your tour will be moved to another day.

**Yabai tours cannot be held responsible for unpredictable weather conditions. Refunds will not be issued for any weather conditions beyond our control.
