KURODAKE BACKCOUNTRY TOUR
Conquer the Roof of Hokkaido - Standing at the gateway to Daisetsuzan National Park, Kurodake (Mt. Kurodake) is where serious riders come to test their limits. With steep faces, massive snowfalls, and untouched alpine lines, it’s a true backcountry challenge — and one of Hokkaido’s most rewarding descents.

Rising above the clouds inside Daisetsuzan National Park, it offers rugged alpine terrain, steep descents, and Japan’s deepest snowpack. — From the summit, there is only wild, untouched lines surrounded by panoramic views and pure wilderness that few riders ever experience.

**Kurodake is an advanced full day tour, that requires a 60-90 minute steep climb to the summit from the top chairlift. You will require, hiking poles and snowshoes or skins. (If you need to rent poles, snowshoes, skins, we will provide these for an extra rental fee)
On our Kurodake tour, we ski back down to the bottom of the top chair lift, before riding the chairlift back up and making one more 60-90 minute climb to the top. It's quite a lot of effort but well worth it! Then, if you still have energy left, we will ride all the way to the bottom, under the ropeway and back to the carpark.
***Please note: Due to varying and quickly changing weather conditions, Kurodake Ropeway will not operate everyday of the winter. Operating days are generally decided by the resort staff on the day. Furthermore, at the discretion of Kurodake ropeway management, the ropeway may not be running first thing in the morning but then (if weather conditions improve), it may start operation after a few hours (or for the afternoon). Conversely, the ropeway may be open in the morning but close later in the day due to deteriorating wind and weather conditions. As a general rule, Kurodake ropeway won't open unless the windspeed is less then 14 metres per second. Due to the 2 x 1 hour hikes from the top chairlift, our Kurodake tour requires a morning start.
Our guides will monitor the situation closely in the days before your tour and notify you of possibilities. If you have booked your tour for Kurodake, and it's not possible to ride there (for the reasons mentioned above) our guides will choose another suitable location for your tour on the day OR if possible your tour will be moved to another day.
**Yabai tours cannot be held responsible for unpredictable weather conditions. Refunds will not be issued for any weather conditions beyond our control.
